Filmmaker Question & Answer

Dark Comedy Productions:

In your own words, what is your new film Sensoria about?

Christian Hallman:

Sensoria is at the core a film about loss. About losing someone or something, about being alone. At the same time it’s about where you belong. It is not a horror film per say, it is a psychological thriller drama. Its a movie which asks more questions than it answers, and a film that hopefully will make you feel uncomfortable.

DCP:

Where did the story stem from?

CH:

The screenplay is written by me and my writing partner Måns F.G. Thunberg. We talked about what we wanted to write, and discussed certain key elements and themes, and Måns had this idea for a story around which we could place the characters. He then wrote the first draft, which we then re-wrote a few times together.

DCP:

When did your love of horror movies begin, and what movie started it all for you?

CH:

From a very young age. Some of the first films I saw were horror films such as It’s Alive and Halloween to name but a few. But I am not only in love with horror films, I love genre film but also film in general. The films that probably put me on the path of filmmaking was Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind if only mentioning two but there are so many more influences and films that inspired me to make films.

What was the most challenging part for you and everyone involved in the making of this film?

DCP:

There were many challenging parts in making Sensoria. Financing was tough.

What was the most memorable experience in making this film?

CH:

Working with Norah Andersen, and also just that although there were compromises, it is the film we intended to make that is in front of you.

DCP:

What are some of Your favorite horror films that have perhaps inspired Sensoria?

CH:

The inspiration for Sensoria comes from among others Repulsion, Rosemary’s Baby. So a lot of Polanski, but also DePalma and Lynch. And many other films that are inspirational to me and Måns. A lot of late 60’s and 70’s films.

DCP:

What has been the response to Sensoria thus far at festivals?

CH:

The world premiere was held at Fantastic Fest on Sunday Sept 27th. So we haven’t screened anywhere else yet. Audience at the screening were amazing. So we are happy about that. The film is up for playing in official selection at another 7 festivals as it looks now and hopefully more.

DCP:

Any new projects on the horizon that you wish to share with us?

CH:

Sensoria was just finished a few weeks ago. But we are working on next film. The script is ready so it is more in finding the financing, attach cast and deciding where to film it. We will see how it develops.
